Throughout the year, Crisis Nursery recognizes some of our wonderful volunteers in our bimonthly Volunteer Spotlight. Congratulations to...
Noah Bindman, our Volunteer of the Month for November!
Noah began volunteering at Crisis Nursery in the summer of 2009. "After my first year of graduate school in chemistry I knew that something was missing in my life. I really wanted to volunteer somewhere. During high school and college I volunteered in a first grade classroom and was an aide for children with special needs. I knew that I really enjoyed playing/being with children (which makes sense considering I’m still a child at heart), so I looked for a place in town and found Crisis Nursery. Volunteering here has definitely been the most rewarding experience during my time in Champaign-Urbana."
For the past six years, Noah has been an extremely reliable and much appreciated volunteer by Crisis Nursery's staff. Noah regularly volunteered every Monday evening during one of our busiest times of the week, providing extra help while our weekly Support Group was held in our conference room. In 2013, Noah was nominated by Crisis Nursery and received the Volunteer Excellence Award from the U of I Office of Volunteer Programs.
Noah has been an incredible volunteer and it is with much bittersweet emotion that we chose to recognize him this month for our Volunteer Spotlight. Noah is moving to Seattle with his wife and newborn daughter this month for a new job. While many volunteers come and go, we are grateful to have had Noah's help for so long and will miss him dearly. Noah, thank you for all the time, dedication, and kindness you've given to Crisis Nursery and the children we serve over the years. You will always be a part of the Crisis Nursery family, and we wish you and your family the best on your new journey!
When Noah was nominated as Volunteer of the Month, we asked him a few questions so we could get to know him a little better. Here's what Noah had to say:
What is the best vacation you have ever been on?
Hands down, my favorite vacation ever was my honeymoon to Costa Rica. My wife and I got to go ziplining, hiking, rafting, and swimming in incredible locations, saw amazing animals, and ate very very tasty food. I would recommend Costa Rica to anyone.
Do you have any pets?
None of the furry variety. However, I do have a beautiful 3-month-old baby daughter.
What is one food you cannot live without?
Pizza is the only food I can’t live without. It has all the best food groups. Bread, cheese, pepperoni, and salt.
What is your favorite TV show?
Right now it has to be the show Sherlock. It’s on either PBS or BBC and follows Sherlock Holmes (Bennedict Cumberbatch) and Dr. John Watson around Britain. I think it’s the best of the Sherlock Holmes shows. I also really enjoy watching Dr. Who.
