Crisis Nursery Work Day
A group of 45 community volunteers scheduled a Work Day, March 8, from 10 to Noon at Crisis Nursery. The volunteers were a collaboration of families (adults and children) and NLVS students from the U of I. We were grateful for all these helping hands. There is always something to do here at the nursery for a volunteer. this was an early spring cleaning for us. Volunteers washed walls, doors and windows, dusted and cleaned blinds throughout the nursery. Others cleaned the microwave, picked up the outside play area of winter debris, cleaned our porch areas, dusted the fans and swept cobwebs out of the corner, cut stencil shaped names tags for the children's cubby holes, faxed PSA's regarding our Dodgeball fundraiser, filed a back log of paperwork, helped consolidate past volunteer files, ordered and put away books in the children's library and pulled special books about spring, rabbits and the weather. We figured out that the 90 hrs they volunteered was the equivalent of freeing up 90 hrs of time and attention that could be given to the children. We couldn't have asked for more willing workers with glad hearts.
"CHANGE FOR CHANGE" CAMPAIGN by CARRIE BUSEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, CHAMPAIGN IL

Carrie Busey Elementary School students and staff raised over $2200.00 in cash and goods during a December week-long "Day At The Nursery" fund-raising drive for the Crisis Nursery. The principal, teachers, and students in all the clases surpassed the goal of $1800, the cost of providing 24 hours of loving care for up to twelve children at the Nursery. The "Change for Change" theme even included a "drive-through" donation opportunity for anyone in the community. Coordinating this effort were school staff members, Mike Deterding and Martha Henss with the support of Principal Zanita Willis. What a terrific way for children to learn the value of helping others. We applaud the children and the school staff for their huge effort to help others!
