Dress Down to Stand Up for Kids

Through the month of April, businesses and schools in the community are dressing down and raising money for Crisis Nursery. For a suggested $5 donation, participants can dress down for the day - jeans day, pajama day, jersey day, funky hat day, etc. - and wear a sticker to show support for Crisis Nursery during Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. Since inception in 2013, this fun, easy program has raised over $17,000 for Crisis Nursery. Thank you to everyone in the community for your support! This year's participants include O'Brien Auto Park of Urbana, EP Technology Corporation, Martin Hood Friese & Associates, Downey Group, Cozad Asset Management, U of I Employees Credit Union, Applied Pavement Technology, Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District, Arthur Elementary School, Mahomet-Seymour Elementary, Jefferson Middle School, and Villa Grove Elementary School. Interested in participating? Contact Heather by email or call 217-337-2731 for more information. Too busy in April? Anytime of the year is ok!

Not Your Average Joe Race

Lace up your running shoes and get ready for the 24th Annual Not Your Average Joe Race. For 23 years Human Kinetics has organized the Not Your Average Joe race, formerly known as the Twin Cities Twosome. The name celebrates the life of Joe Seeley, a former Human Kinetics employee who died of leukemia in 2012. Seeley devoted considerable time and energy to the annual charity race and to the Champaign-Urbana running community. In 2014, Human Kinetics was able to contribute $15,000 to the three benefitting charities: Courage Connection, Crisis Nursery, and the T.I.M.E.S. Center. Over its 23-year history, the race has raised over $150,000.Race day is Saturday, May 9 and registration ends May 7. Click here for more information and registration.

Honor and Serve Day - Illinois vs. Rutgers

The University of Illinois baseball team will wear special jerseys on Sunday, May 10, as part of the fourth annual "Honor and Serve Day" at Illinois Field. The Fighting Illini Dugout Club donated the jerseys and will hold a silent auction during the 11 a.m. game against Rutgers, with all proceeds from it going to Crisis Nursery.

As part of the day's promotions, fans can purchase special T-shirts featuring the same pattern as the team's jerseys. The shirts are available at Gameday Spirit in Champaign and at Illinois' remaining home games. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the shirts also will be donated by Gameday Spirit to Crisis Nursery.

The event is designed to honor University of Illinois student veterans and all of America's heroes, and to serve the Champaign-Urbana community. Full details on Honor and Serve Day will be released leading up to the event.

Third Party Fundraiser Guidelines

A third-party fundraising event is any activity by a non-affiliated group or individual where Crisis Nursery has no fiduciary responsibility and little or no staff involvement. A third party fundraiser is an outside group or individual that wishes to hold a promotion, event, or sale to benefit Crisis Nursery.
Third party fundraisers are a great way to collect money and goods to donate to the Nursery. We are grateful for dollars raised through events – they helped us raise more than $58,000 in fiscal year 2010! Crisis Nursery encourages third party fundraisers (i.e. golf outings, marathons, sales and donations benefitting the Nursery, etc).

If you have an idea or plan for an event that will benefit Crisis Nursery, contact Special Events Coordinator Heather Wienke to discuss your idea. We ask that all events are approved by Crisis Nursery in advance. This is an important safeguard to preserving the integrity of the Crisis Nursery name and our commitment to raise the necessary funds to fulfill our mission in a cost-effective and efficient manner.  Together, we will discuss your plan and provide guidance for success. Please review our Third Party Fundraiser Guidelines and Agreement. This document will need to be signed in order to move forward with your event

Because of the volume of these requests, we cannot personally participate in each event that is proposed but will provide materials for your event about Crisis Nursery and the services we provide. As a reminder - please do not move forward with your plans until you have discussed your idea for a third party fundraiser with Special Events Coordinator. Thank you for your support of Crisis Nursery.

If you are interested in organizing an event that supports Crisis Nursery, please contact Heather Wienke at 217-337-2731 or Thank you for your interest and support!
